the flowing spring of happiness
February 5th, 2007 -- Posted in >8], ;P, Ommmm | No Comments »The homily at mass today struck a certain part of me. The priest talked about simplifying life. He talked about the different things that we pray for whether it’s grades, a dissertation or performance on the job. And then he said something so simple yet it struck me as so wise. I fail to put it as well as he did but he said something like: “The hardest thing people have trouble with is recognizing that what they’ve been given, right in front of their eyes, is a gift from God.”
Nothing new, right? It’s not complex but it’s good to be reminded of this every now and then. Sometimes Life feels like it’s not going your way because you feel like you need more money, a better career (or one that should be further along) or a home to purchase. The stress and sadness of not having these things often deserves a slap in the face (figuratively speaking).
See this life you have? Not the money, but the friends and family that support you. Not the car, but the health that sustains you. Not the career, but life’s experiences that fulfill you. That is a gift. Simplify.
I came home today and put on some music. I randomly decided to go through Picasa and stroll through the pictures I’ve taken throughout the years. Looking at the different pictures over the years brings warmth over my soul.
Here’s a sample of a random, funny pic Em and I took when we went to eat Japanese food in the city on a random weekend. Seeing these made me smile.
