2046
Wong Kar Wai has a new film out called 2046. NYTimes has a review here.
For those of you who don’t know Wong Kar Wai, he’s a director out of Hong Kong. I’ve seen a couple of his other movies like ChungKing Express, In the Mood For Love, and Days of Being Wild. His movies have been very popular at Cannes. Like his other movies, 2046 seems to be a love story. The difference is that this movie takes place in the future and it seems like this movie may have more effects in it than Wong typically uses.
It comes out today. Unfortunately it’s only in LA and NY. Boo!! I can’t wait until it comes here.

Oh! I went to the premiere of this film at Cannes in May 2004. Didn’t see it though. Just ogled at the celebrities for a while. Interesting how how long it takes to reach the States.

Actually back then it wasn’t completely finished. I read in the reviews that he gave a preview and the people did not enjoy the film because not many of effects had put into place. I think he finished the film months after he showed it at Cannes.

I saw the preview for this a couple of weeks ago when I went to watch Rize at a Landmark “Indie” theatre. The effects were over-the-top for a Wong Kar Wai film. Normally he sticks to natural gritty effects like rain and vintage time settings in the 1950s. I was pleased to see the addition of Wong Faye into this movie. I don’t think she’s been in one of his films since Chungking Express, correct me if I’m wrong.
